Multi-office, multi-state law firm, A Full-Service Insurance Law Firm, is seeking an insurance coverage associate attorney with at least 3 years of experience to join their Garden City, New York office. Some travel may be required. The candidate will be working with internationally recognized partners and work on complex challenging insurance legal issues. The candidate will analyze insurance and reinsurance policies, draft insurance coverage opinions and respond to regulatory inquiries. Litigation experience is a plus. The candidate should be admitted to practice in the State of New York (CT, NJ, PA admission is a plus). Federal Court experience is a plus.

This position requires a high level of motivation, flexibility, initiative, and accountability. The ideal candidate should have the ability to exercise good judgement in a variety of situations, with strong and professional communications skills, and be friendly and outgoing. Responsibilities include:
  • Analyzing insurance policies and drafting insurance coverage opinions
  • Ability to read and comprehend complex insurance contracts and assess the legal issues related to the contracts
  • Communicate with clients and provide coverage recommendations
  • Drafting of pleadings, motions and written discovery
  • Handling assigned caseload both independently and with supervision commensurate with experience
  • Perform extensive legal research
  • Attendance at depositions, court appearances and motion practice
  • Ability to handle assigned caseload both independently and with supervision
  • Maintain an excellent relationship with clients, including complying with all client guidelines
  • Ensure all deadlines are met
  • Accurately record and maintain billable hours

Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • Exceptional writing, research and analytical skills. The ideal candidate must take pride in delivering an error-free product.
  • Admitted to practice in the State of New York (PA, NJ and/or CT admission is a plus)
  • Federal Court experience is a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in insurance coverage or similar insurance experience (reinsurance, regulatory)
  • Experience in insurance policy analysis, as well as written discovery, motions and depositions
  • Exceptional in other areas of the law should be highlighted and will be considered. For example, insurance defense experience.
