We are seeking an experienced Immigration Attorney with a strong background in Removal Defense and Federal Litigation to join our growing legal team.The ideal candidate is a skilled advocate who can independently manage complex immigration matters, develop effective legal strategies, and maintain high standards of client service, accuracy, and accountability in a fast-paced, remote-friendly environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Removal Defense & Federal Litigation
- Serve as lead counsel on complex immigration matters, including removal defense and federal litigation.
- Represent clients in proceedings before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), including immigration courts and the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
- Develop and execute legal strategies for removal proceedings, asylum, cancellation of removal, motions to reopen, and other forms of immigration relief.
- Prepare, draft, review, and finalize legal briefs, motions, petitions, declarations, memoranda, and supporting documentation.
- Handle applicable federal immigration litigation matters, including petitions for review and other federal court proceedings.
- Conduct legal research and analyze complex immigration laws, regulations, and case developments.
- Represent clients before USCIS, EOIR, ICE, and other government agencies as required.
- Independently manage assigned cases from initial consultation through resolution.
- Maintain accurate case notes, documentation, deadlines, and client communications.
- Review filings for legal accuracy, completeness, and compliance before submission.
- Proactively identify legal issues, case risks, and approaching deadlines.
- Provide timely updates and clear legal guidance to clients.
- Maintain organized case files using the firm's technology and case management systems.
- Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants to ensure effective case progression.
- Provide guidance and oversight to support staff when appropriate.
- Follow established firm procedures, quality standards, and technology-driven workflows.
- Meet the firm's productivity expectation of approximately 100 completed credit hours per month, while maintaining high-quality representation and timely case completion.
- Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction, in good standing.
- Minimum 5 years of substantive immigration law experience, with significant removal defense and/or federal litigation experience.
- Demonstrated experience representing clients in immigration court proceedings.
- Strong working knowledge of USCIS, EOIR, ICE, and applicable immigration laws and procedures.
- Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
- Ability to independently manage complex matters, competing priorities, and strict deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail, professional judgment, and client communication skills.
- Proficiency with legal technology, Microsoft Office, and electronic case management systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a remote environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience handling BIA appeals, motions to reopen, and federal immigration litigation.
- Experience with asylum, withholding of removal, cancellation of removal, and other humanitarian immigration relief.
- Experience managing a substantial immigration caseload.
- Familiarity with Jira or similar workflow and project management platforms.
- Experience collaborating with or supervising paralegals and legal assistants.
- Competitive base salary of $135,000–$185,000, depending on qualifications and experience.
