General Description:
Work involves civil human trafficking litigation; planning, coordinating and otherwise managing all stages of civil litigation including, but not limited to drafting pleadings, drafting letters, pretrial motion practice, propounding and responding to discovery, participating in depositions, hearings, meetings for landlord engagement and trials in state court; providing civil legal advice, counsel, and assistance; and conducting legal research into novel issues. Applicant will work closely with civil and criminal prosecutors and investigators and will work on cases throughout Texas.

Essential Position Functions
  • Candidate Must Be Highly Motivated and Able to Bring the Resources Needed to Introduce and Prosecute Civil Cases Related to Human Trafficking on Behalf of The State of Texas.
  • Handles All Phases of Civil Litigation from Investigation Through Resolution.
  • Analyzes Complex Factual and Legal Issues; and Develops Evidence Through Witness Interviews, Civil Investigative Demand Responses, Subpoenas, Depositions, or Other Discovery.
  • Performs Legal Research and Reports Findings and Conclusions; Drafts the Preparation of Legal Opinions, Briefs, Pleadings, and Other Legal Documents.
  • Provides Legal Advice Counsel and Assistance to Local Prosecutors and Law Enforcement Entities.
  • Reviews and Provides Input on Proposed Bills Related to Human Trafficking.
  • Performs Related Work as Assigned.
  • Maintains Relevant Knowledge Necessary to Perform Essential Job Functions.
  • Attends Work Regularly in Compliance with Agreed-Upon Work Schedule.
  • Ensures Security and Confidentiality of Sensitive And/or Protected Information.
  • Complies with All Agency Policies and Procedures, Including Those Pertaining to Ethics and Integrity.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduation from An Accredited Law School with A Juris Doctor Degree (j.D.)
  • Experience: Experience Working in The Following (or Closely Related) Fields as A Licensed Attorney: Civil Litigation
  • Licensed as An Attorney by The State of Texas
  • Member in Good Standing with The State Bar of Texas and Eligible to Practice Law in Texas by Start Date.
  • Knowledge of Law and Legal Principles and Practices Relevant to Civil Law
  • Skill in Handling Multiple Tasks, Prioritizing, and Meeting Deadlines
  • Skill in Effective Oral and Written Communication (writing Sample Required at Time of Interview, if Selected)
  • Skill in Exercising Sound Judgment and Effective Decision Making
  • Ability to Receive and Respond Positively to Constructive Feedback
  • Ability to Work Cooperatively with Others in A Professional Office Environment
  • Ability to Provide Excellent Customer Service
  • Ability to Work in Person at Assigned Oag Work Location, Perform All Assigned Tasks at Designated Oag Workspace Within Oag Work Location, and Perform In-Person Work with Coworkers (e.G., Collaborating, Training, Mentoring) for The Entirety of Every Work Week (unless on Approved Leave)
  • Ability to Arrange for Personal Transportation for Business-Related Travel
  • Ability to Work More than 40 Hours as Needed and In Compliance with The Flsa
  • Ability to Lift and Relocate 30 Lbs.
  • Ability to Travel (including Overnight Travel) up To 20%

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience: At Least 1 Year of Civil Litigation Experience
  • Strong Legal Research Skills, Strong Organizational Skills
  • Other Language: Ability to Proficiently Read, Write, and Speak English
