About the Job:
As Global Litigation and Compliance Counsel, you'll play an important role in overseeing Genesys' worldwide litigation docket, as well the development of Genesys' compliance program. You will work closely with a broad range of business teams, including finance, human resources, product, engineering, development, and operations to help solve legal and regulatory issues to enable the business to scale and grow. You'll need to be proactive and engaged, able to work well cross-functionally both internally and externally, excited about technology, and ready to roll your sleeves up and dig into legal problems to reach a creative solution.

The Position:
This role is based in the United States and may be fully remote. The successful candidate will report to Genesys' General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer.

Responsibilities:
The Global Litigation and Compliance Counsel is expected to manage the Company's global litigation docket, as well as play a primary role in developing and enhancing Genesys' compliance program. The candidate is expected to provide strategic and legal advice to internal business partners, including working closely with a broad range of business teams in pre-litigation disputes and other adversarial matters, and when necessary, through trial and appeal.

The successful candidate will also be able to provide day-to-day advice to assist the Company in managing and mitigating legal risks, and will include the following key responsibilities:
  • Supervise and manage outside counsel relationships in litigation matters, including case strategy, motions and briefs, discovery, trial preparation, staffing, budgets and invoices, and compliance with outside counsel guidelines.
  • Lead internal investigation efforts, collect facts and evidence, interview witnesses, draft and revise legal briefs and written discovery, develop and execute litigation strategy, negotiate and draft settlement agreements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local laws.
  • Collaborate with business and legal colleagues throughout the Company.
  • Coordinate internal communication, projects, and training amongst different teams (legal, privacy, human resources, information security, product, finance, and regional teams).
  • Assist in the review of and/or developing, updating, and maintaining of compliance policies and procedures, customer-facing resources, contract addenda and templates relating to regulatory compliance, privacy and other matters.
  • Aid in the business in evaluation and engagement of trustworthy business partners through effective conduct of due diligence and design of monitoring/oversight processes.
  • Enhance visibility of ethics and integrity initiatives across relevant business units and continue to build awareness and accountability among key stakeholders.
  • Report progress, challenges, and plans to the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, executive leadership, and appropriate oversight bodies within the organization.
  • Provide support as needed to assist on other company initiatives (new technology implementation, internal policies, and data privacy and security efforts).
  • Monitor regulatory trends across markets to determine trends and issues for the company to address.

Job Requirements:
  • Possess a law degree from an accredited law school and have passed a bar exam in any US State or Territory and be a member in good standing in any such State or Territory.
  • Minimum of 10 years legal experience required and gained from a combination of private practice and in-house roles.
  • Substantial litigation experience with a government agency, top rated law firm or major high technology company required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to collaboratively work cross functionally with internal teams, including finance, human resources, privacy, information technology, sales, and product management.
  • Experience in international business development, privacy and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Proficient knowledge of legal issues specific to the high technology industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to navigate, complex legal and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Must have positive, problem-solving, business focused attitude with good judgment prioritizing workload in fast paced environment, with and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete projects accurately, on schedule.
  • Must be a team player also able to self-start and work independently.
  • Ability to work on complex matters with minimal supervision.
  • Track record of establishing strong working relationships with internal/external business clients and within the legal department.
