Who You Are:
This is a unique opportunity to help build global privacy and AI programs from the ground up. You won't be inheriting what didn't work; you will be creating what will work – and on a global scale with the company's key business stakeholders. You will report to A Software Company Deputy General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer and play a significant role in shaping the direction of the privacy and AI programs. The ideal candidate will be able to hit the ground running on day one, excited to roll up their sleeves and dive in while also eager to set the strategic vision (and know how to have fun in the process). We are an “in the office” company and this role is based in our headquarters in San Mateo, CA.

What You'll Be Expected To Do
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on all privacy issues, including across all aspects of global privacy laws and regulations
  • Work with key privacy, security and product leaders at A Software Company to develop and lead the company's Privacy program, including its operation, policies, and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance with A Software Company evolving data privacy obligations
  • Work with key privacy, security and product leaders at A Software Company to develop and lead the company's AI framework and governance program, including its operation, policies, procedures, and SDLC implementation and support
  • Develop and maintain form agreements in support of the Privacy Program, including intra-group agreements, DPA/BAAs, and security terms
  • Oversee program auditing for compliance and global harmonization
  • Provide advice and counsel to leaders and stakeholders at A Software Company about privacy incidents and respond to inquiries from global regulators regarding privacy issues
  • Advise Verkada on transactions involving privacy issues, data sharing, biometrics, AI/ML, and related laws and regulations worldwide
  • Monitor new and emerging developments in privacy and AI/ML laws and regulations, including identifying potential impacts on current and future Verkada products and services
  • Actively promote the importance of data privacy and security at Verkada, both internally and externally

What You'll Need:
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school
  • 10+ years of relevant privacy experience (preferably with at least 4 years of in-house counsel experience at a B2B technology company)
  • Expertise in the evolving landscape of data privacy, biometrics, AI/ML regulations with experience spotting emerging trends and new issues
  • Experience advising multinational, complex fast-growing global companies, preferably with both hardware and software product offerings
  • Experience advising clients in global transactions involving privacy issues, data sharing, AI/ML, and privacy law and regulations
  • Experience advising clients on global policy matters, new legislative and regulatory developments, and legal and policy advocacy options and strategies
  • Strong interest and skills in privacy adtech a plus!
