Description:

The General Counsel is responsible for leading corporate strategic and tactical legal initiatives. The General Counsel provides Executives with advice on legal matters related to company strategies and their implementation; manages the legal function, and obtains and oversees the work of outside counsel. The General Counsel is directly involved in reviewing client contracts, subcontracts, real estate leases, legal matters pertaining to personnel, employment, and similar issues.

This is an exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Routine Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate legal guidance to the executive staff on all matters that affect the company.
  • Manage all litigations and working with outside counsel to develop litigation strategies.
  • Draft and review client contracts, vendor agreements, real estate leases, and subcontract agreements.
  • Comment on, revise general services contracts, and other legal documents relating to HBC operations.
  • Interact with Human Resources and Executives regarding employment related issues.
  • Review and advise senior executives and Operations staff on client contracts and subcontracts.
  • Ensure that the company operates in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Represent HBC in administrative and court proceedings.
  • Assist with the development of corporate policies and procedures.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications And/or Equivalents
  • J.D. degree from an ABA-approved law school and be an active member in good standing of California Bar.
  • Background in construction or related industry is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of legal principles, practices, and proceedings.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in fast-paced, results oriented environment.
