Job Overview:
PlanetArt is seeking a General Counsel who brings strong legal judgment, business acumen, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-growing, technology-driven environment. This role is a member of the executive team and serves as a core partner to the Co-CEOS and senior leadership in shaping company strategy and managing legal risk across a global business.
As General Counsel, you will lead the company's legal function across all areas of the organization, providing practical, business-focused guidance that supports growth while protecting the company. You will work closely with leaders across the business, influence decision-making at the highest level, and help build scalable legal frameworks as the company evolves.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who values accountability, collaboration, and high standards. You will join a team of driven, thoughtful leaders who take their work seriously and expect the same from each other. If you are entrepreneurial by nature, comfortable navigating complexity, and motivated by doing work that has real impact, this role offers both responsibility and opportunity.
Please Note: Candidates must be local to or willing to relocate to the Calabasas area as we operate on a hybrid work model (3 days onsite, 2 remote)
What You'll Do:
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day of our legal function, including managing both outside counsel and our in-house legal team.
- Work closely with our Co-CEOs on a variety of strategic and special projects.
- Hold primary responsibility for compliance, including privacy (domestic and international), employment, FTC Consent Order, OSHA, consumer product, and advertising and promotion.
- Negotiate, draft, review and interpret a wide range of commercial agreements and amendments, including license agreements, service agreements, marketing agreements and leases.
- Run the legal side of our M&A and corporate transactions activity, including conducting and managing due diligence and drafting and negotiating contracts used in the M&A process.
- Oversee litigation and dispute resolution on a global scale.
- Oversee our intellectual property practice, covering primarily patents and trademarks (domestic and international).
- Serve as the company's corporate secretary.
- Act as an “Agent of Change” in our growth-oriented culture.

What you should have:
Skills, Qualifications, and Requirements
- J.D. with excellent academic credentials.
- Member in at least one state bar (California preferred).
- 15+ years of experience providing legal services to technology, eCommerce or consumer products company(ies), including at least 5 years of practicing in-house.
- Deep experience in intellectual property licensing, mergers and acquisitions and commercial transactions. Bonus points for experience in compliance with an FTC consent order.
- Natural curiosity and an inclination to ask “why?” when presented with a new fact or issue.
- Commitment to growth as both a person and a professional.
- Outstanding analytical, communication, organizational, negotiation and drafting skills.
- Sound legal, financial and business judgment.
- Strategic thinking and multi-tasking skills with an ability to accommodate tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office environment with low to moderate noise levels.
- Position requires regular, continuous use of computer.

- May require occasional travel.
- This is a hybrid position; employees are expected to be in the office three days per week (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday) with the option of working remotely two days (Wednesday and Friday).
Benefits:
The compensation range for this position is $220,000 - $280,000 annual salary + bonus.
