About the Job:A Non-Profit Organization invites you to join us as a Family Law Attorney Fellow through our inaugural 2024-2026 Fellowship, generously funded by North Carolina Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (NC IOLTA).
We are
searching for a compassionate and dedicated individual to serve as a
Family Law Attorney Fellow for a two-year term (this position may extend
beyond the two-year term, but the fellowship ends at year two). Located
in Washington, NC, you will play a vital role in improving access to
civil courts for families in need of custody and divorce assistance,
particularly those facing financial challenges.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct intake consultations, collaborating with families to assess their needs and provide necessary resources and guidance.
- Participate in trial-level litigation for custody, divorce, and equitable distribution.
- Conduct legal research, staying current on relevant family law matters.
- Assist families in preparing legal documents and provide representation.
- Forge and maintain connections with local organizations and community partners to enhance support for families in need.
Qualifications:
- Admitted to practice law in North Carolina with an understanding of family law. Note that February 2024 and July 2024 bar takers are encouraged to apply.
- Compassion, empathy, and a genuine commitment to serving vulnerable populations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with families, legal professionals, and community organizations.
- A commitment to improving access to justice for underserved communities.
- Preference given to newly licensed attorneys or those with less than five (5) years of experience.
