Seth M. Woodall & Associates, PLLC is seeking an experienced Family Law Attorney to join our Madison, North Carolina office.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of licensed legal-practice experience, including substantial experience handling North Carolina domestic and family-law matters. The attorney should be capable of independently managing cases from the initial client consultation through negotiation, mediation, hearing, trial, and final disposition.

This position suits an attorney who wants to practice in an established law firm, receive administrative and paralegal support, handle meaningful courtroom matters, and help grow the Firm's family-law practice in Rockingham County and the surrounding area.

Primary Responsibilities:
The attorney's responsibilities will include:
  • Managing an active domestic and family-law caseload;
  • Conducting initial client consultations and evaluating potential matters;
  • Advising clients regarding North Carolina family-law rights, obligations, risks, and available remedies;
  • Preparing complaints, answers, motions, affidavits, discovery requests and responses, proposed orders, separation agreements, settlement agreements, and other legal documents;
  • Handling child-custody, visitation, child-support, post-separation-support, alimony, equitable-distribution, divorce, contempt, enforcement, and domestic-violence matters;
  • Appearing in District Court for temporary hearings, motions, trials, and other proceedings;
  • Conducting and responding to written discovery;
  • Preparing for and participating in depositions, mediations, judicial settlement conferences, and negotiations;
  • Communicating regularly and professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, experts, and Firm staff;
  • Maintaining complete, organized, and timely client files;
  • Monitoring court dates, discovery deadlines, statutes of limitation, and other case deadlines;
  • Supervising and working effectively with paralegals and administrative staff;
  • Recording time, maintaining billing records, and assisting with the collection of client accounts;
  • Participating in the development and growth of the Firm's family-law practice; and
  • Performing other legal duties reasonably associated with the position.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have:
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school;
  • An active license to practice law in North Carolina and good standing with the North Carolina State Bar;
  • At least three years of licensed legal-practice experience preferred;
  • Experience handling North Carolina domestic or family-law matters;
  • Meaningful courtroom, hearing, or trial experience;
  • The ability to manage cases and client relationships with reasonable independence;
  • Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and oral-advocacy skills;
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills;
  • The ability to manage multiple active matters and competing deadlines;
  • Sound professional judgment and attention to detail;
  • The ability to communicate effectively with clients during difficult and emotionally charged circumstances; and
  • A commitment to professionalism, ethical practice, client service, and teamwork.

Experience with contested custody, equitable distribution, support proceedings, domestic-violence matters, discovery, mediation, and trial preparation is strongly preferred.
