Description:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in sanctions or export control laws and conducting investigation.
  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with OFAC sanctions, the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Experience managing Office of Foreign Assets Controls (OFAC) or Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) enforcement actions, inquiries, and other engagements with regulators.
  • Experience working in-house on investigations related to sanctioned countries and restricted parties.
  • Experience with regulatory or corporate investigations, including strategically addressing and minimizing regulatory risk.
  • Experience with high risk incident response and working with technology companies.
  • Ability to exercise acumen and adapt to change.

As an Export Counsel (Sanctions Investigations), you will be part of a team that works to identify and mitigate relevant legal risks in a non-traditional and ever-changing business. In this role, you will utilize and develop investigative techniques and strategies to conduct investigations related to sanctions or parties subject to heightened export control restrictions. As a member of An American Multinational Technology Company's Export Legal team, you will act as an advisor to cross-functional partners, such as Product Counsel, Regulatory Affairs, Payments Compliance, and Trust and Safety regarding applicable export control and sanctions laws and regulations. Your work will assist in navigating the uncertain aspects of our business future, identifying creative ways to solve legal problems, and staying true to An American Multinational Technology Company's high ethical standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct internal investigations related to geographies and parties subject to US sanctions, export controls, other applicable sanctions or export control regulations.
  • Partner with teammates across An American Multinational Technology Company's Export Legal team and cross-functional stakeholders to assess and respond to applicable regulatory requests and other matters involving sanctions or export control regulations.
  • Develop and implement investigation methodologies, process results, analyze the law, provide advice, develop/implement appropriate controls, and prepare memoranda/presentations describing the same.
  • Act as an advisor on sanctions matters to key stakeholders across An American Multinational Technology Company product areas.
  • Provide thought leadership on sanctions escalations, investigative, and legal matters.
