(“GKL”) is a union-side labor and ERISA law firm with a 30-year history of commitment to union values and the power of organized labor. We represent some of the largest construction unions in the region.Related to our union representation, GKL also works closely with our benefit fund clients to administer the union members' pension, health insurance and other benefits won through collective bargaining. Our work with fund clients includes counseling trustees, plan design, regulatory compliance (ERISA), and enforcing employer obligations to fund the benefits through litigation in federal court where necessary.
GKL currently has an opening in our ERISA & Labor practice. We are seeking a talented individual with 2+ years of experience as an employee benefits lawyer, ideally experienced working with multiemployer plans. The job role entails working with clients to administer union members' pension, health insurance and other benefits; ensuring client compliance with applicable laws such as ERISA, PPACA, HIPAA and others; drafting plan documents; and attending client meetings.
You will also have opportunities to support our labor law practice, where we provide our union clients with day-to-day guidance, support our clients' collective bargaining and contract enforcement, run union elections, and attend executive board meetings, as well as representing clients in grievances, NLRB petitions, and jurisdictional disputes.
The candidates must have:
- 2+ years of employee benefits legal experience, ideally with multiemployer plans;
- Labor experience a plus;
- Admission to New York or able to quickly gain admission;
- Strong research and writing skills;
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
