Position Overview:
The Immigration Litigation Attorney will represent individuals in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court. The attorney will manage and prepare cases for Master Hearings, appear in court, advocate for detained and non-detained clients, and help supervise members of the litigation support team.
The ideal candidate is confident in the courtroom, highly organized, compassionate with clients, and able to develop effective legal strategies in complex immigration matters.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court
- Prepare and conduct Master Hearings
- Handle detained immigration cases, including bond and custody-related matters
- Develop case strategy and prepare clients and witnesses for testimony
- Review records, evidence, declarations, expert reports, and supporting documentation
- Conduct legal research and draft persuasive motions, briefs, and legal memoranda
- Supervise and provide guidance to immigration paralegals and legal assistants
- Maintain clear and compassionate communication with clients and their families
- Ensure that all court deadlines, filing requirements, and internal case-management procedures are followed
- Collaborate with supervising attorneys and other members of the litigation department
- Defensive asylum, withholding of removal, and Convention Against Torture claims
- EOIR-42A and EOIR-42B cancellation of removal applications
- Adjustment of status applications before the Immigration Court
- Bond motions and custody redetermination requests
- Prosecutorial discretion requests
- Motions to terminate or administratively close proceedings
- Motions to reopen or reconsider
- Other removal-defense applications, motions, and court filings
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with the bar of any U.S. state or territory
- Experience representing clients in immigration court proceedings
- Strong knowledge of immigration law, removal defense, and related procedures
- Individual Hearing and courtroom experience strongly preferred
- Excellent legal research, writing, and drafting skills
- Experience using Westlaw, LexisNexis, or comparable legal-research platforms
- Strong organizational and case-management abilities
- Ability to manage deadlines and multiple complex matters
- Strong advocacy, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to supervise and work collaboratively with paralegals and legal assistants
- Compassionate and professional communication with clients and their families
- Spanish fluency strongly preferred
