Job Summary:We are looking for an experienced, strategic and business-oriented employment attorney who is a team player. The role will be responsible for providing both advice & counsel on a broad range of employment law and employee relations matters as well as the direct handling and management of employment-related claims and litigation. The Employment and Litigation Counsel will have the opportunity to support the streamlining of updated processes and workflows.
What You'll Do:
- Provide day-to-day strategic support to Human Resources and Operations leaders at all levels of the company on a range of employment law issues, including hiring, performance management, terminations, accommodations, leaves of absence, wage and hour issues, discrimination and harassment claims, internal investigations, restrictive covenants, etc.
- Actively manage disputes and commercial and employment litigation matters, including managing outside counsel (when applicable) and responding to administrative charges and complaints, demand letters, and other claims
- Draft and advise on a wide range of employment-related documents, including but not limited to employment agreements, consulting agreements, separation and settlement agreements, and cease and desist letters
- Monitor changes to laws, regulations, and case law affecting the business; distill information and educate stakeholders on how legal matters apply to the business
- Manage and actively participate in internal and external discovery activities; respond to third-party subpoenas and other similar requests/demands
- Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of company policies, procedures, and practices for the company's workforce
- Conduct and oversee compliance and regulatory audits
- Collaborate with other members of the Legal team on inter-departmental issues and special projects, as assigned
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school with strong academic credentials
- Admission to the Bar of a U.S. state, membership in good standing
- 4+ years of employment counseling and litigation experience, preferably including prior in-house and management-side experience. Multi-state experience is beneficial but not required. Immigration experience is a plus.
- Sound judgment in making recommendations, with ability to strike a sensible and practical balance between legal risks and business needs
- Excellent analytical, writing and oral communication skills
- Proven track record of delivering pragmatic solutions and resolving disputes effectively and efficiently, including through partnership with outside counsel and service providers
- Ability to effectively multitask and manage competing priorities and demands on time.
- Strong curiosity about the business generally and a willingness to tackle a variety of pre-litigation, litigation, employment matters, and general counsel advice matters
- Interest in building strong cross-functional relationships and developing credibility and trust with clients
