As A German Multinational Conglomerate Company Industry Software continues to experience growth in its business and the number of employees globally, we want to ensure we offer a continuous level of support with the growing complexity of employment laws. The Labor and Employment team is seeking to hire a Legal Counsel – Labor and Employment law. This role will work with human resource and business partners to provide legal expertise and practical advice on all aspects of employment laws in our Americas zone, with a primary focus on the United States.

This is a full-time position with a preferred location in Plano, Texas OR Wilsonville, Oregon OR Fremont, California. Other locations in the United States where the company has significant operations may be considered. The position does allow hybrid work with part of the week in the office and part remote at home.

Job Duties:
  • Provide legal support for all employment law issues of a global software company.
  • Prepare legal documents, including separation agreements, policies, incentive plans, legal memos, employment agreements, and responses to attorney letters and administrative charges.
  • Provide counsel to human resources and executive management on employment law matters, including employee relations, recruiting and hiring, harassment and discrimination, policies, leaves of absence, disability accommodations, government audits, reductions in force, wage and hour matters, and non-competition agreements.
  • Proactively monitor and advise business clients on employment laws across all states in the U.S. and our Americas zone.
  • Some oversight of litigation and outside counsel.

Job Qualifications:
  • A mid-level attorney with 5-10 years' experience focused on employment law. Degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law as an in-house attorney in the location hired.
  • Prior in-house experience preferred. Some international experience a plus, particularly in Canada and Mexico.
  • Position requires strong counselling and advice skills, broad knowledge of federal and state employment laws across the U.S., familiarity with international labour and employment laws, ability to prepare and present training, knowledge of online research tools, and the ability to address legal issues proactively.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently in a team-oriented culture.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. Candidate must be comfortable interfacing directly with all levels of managers and department leaders as well as various members of the human resources team.
