Description:

We are seeking a qualified Assistant General Counsel, Employee Relations to join our Legal team at A Comprehensive Homeownership Journey Platform Company. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and providing legal guidance on workplace disputes and disciplinary actions. Additionally, you will play a key role in staying updated on employment laws and collaborating with internal departments to implement legal requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead comprehensive investigations into allegations of harassment, bullying, retaliation, discrimination, and hostile work environment, collaborating with the People and Benefits Teams.
  • Propose remedial actions based on thorough investigation findings to address policy violations and mitigate potential risks.
  • Provide investigation and consultation support to managers dealing with team member conduct and performance issues in conjunction with the People Team.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the People Team regarding employee relations questions and concerns, offering legal expertise and guidance.
  • Establish standard methodologies and frameworks for conducting investigations, ensuring consistency and adherence to legal standards.
  • Analyze data, trends, and opportunities from internal systems to proactively identify and address employee relations issues, contributing to a positive work environment.
  • Guarantee compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations in all employee relations activities.
  • Facilitate the implementation of legal procedures to protect employee rights and mitigate business liabilities.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and a current license to practice law in NY, CA or NJ
  • 5-7 years of experience as an attorney specializing in employment law, showcasing a profound understanding of related legal principles and regulations.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local, state, and federal employment laws and regulations, coupled with a successful track record in ensuring organizational compliance.
  • Expertise in leading and conducting investigations into various employee relations matters, including harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and workplace misconduct.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling the assessment of complex legal issues and the delivery of practical, strategic advice to stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate legal concepts clearly to non-legal professionals.
  • Comfortable with navigating uncertainty, demonstrating adaptability and composure in ambiguous situations.
  • High personal integrity and the ability to exhibit a superior level of confidentiality, particularly when handling sensitive employee relations matters.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with HR Business Partners, Legal teams, and other stakeholders to address employee relations issues and implement strategic solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in proposing and implementing remedial actions based on investigation findings to mitigate legal risks and foster a positive work environment.
  • Capability to stay current with emerging trends and changes in employment laws, adapting organizational policies and practices accordingly.
  • Prior experience in a corporate legal department or law firm, especially in roles focused on employment law, is highly desirable.
