Job Description:Step into the courtroom and help shape the future of insurance defense litigation! As an Early Career Trial Attorney with An American Insurance Company's Client Legal Services team, you'll defend insured clients and the company in bodily injury, property damage, and general liability cases. You'll gain hands-on litigation experience through trials, arbitrations, and mediations, while also counseling internal clients and staying ahead of new legal developments. This is a dynamic role designed to provide real courtroom advocacy and strong mentorship to early-career attorneys building their trial practice.
Key Responsibilities
Education
Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the Connecticut State Bar.
- Manage all aspects of insurance defense litigation from case inception to verdict, including initial case assessment, discovery, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial negotiations, courtroom advocacy, and post-trial motions to ensure favorable outcomes for clients.
- Gather and organize documents, evidence, and legal research for cases, including preparation for hearings, trials, arbitrations, mediations, and depositions.
- Conduct legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and case precedents; prepare summaries and reports.
- Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents.
- Interview clients and witnesses, as well as drafting summaries of their statements and maintaining communication records.
- Attend court hearings, depositions, and other legal proceedings to observe and assist as needed; may represent the company or clients in routine matters.
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations and assist in updating the legal team on potential impacts to ongoing cases.
- Participate in training sessions and mentorship programs to develop legal skills and gain exposure to more complex legal work.
Juris Doctorate and active membership in good standing with the Connecticut State Bar.

- Must be commutable distance to courthouses throughout Connecticut, primarily New Haven, Bridgeport, and Waterbury .
