Job Summary:
Vail Resorts seeks an experienced and passionate labor and employment attorney to join our L&E Legal Team as Director, Senior Employment Counsel. As a collaborative team, we act as strategic partners to our Human Resources department and provide labor and employment advice to all divisions of the organization. The Senior Employment Counsel role requires an agile and flexible problem solver, demonstrated business leader, and team player who can lead complex projects, remain calm under pressure, implement effective systems, successfully manage others, and guide the business on high-stakes legal issues.

- Starting Wage: $160,000 - $180,000 + annual bonus + equity

Job Responsibilities:
- Manage legal risk by providing reliable advice, counsel, and support to our Legal, Human Resources, Compliance, Health & Safety, and Operations teams on legal matters, including, but not limited to, wage and hour, accommodations, disciplinary matters, compensation, leaves of absences, EEO requirements, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, social media, privacy, hiring and separations, union campaigns, collective bargaining, and policies and procedures.
- Lead labor-related programs, including campaigns, elections, collective bargaining, training, contract oversight, grievances/ULPs, workforce continuity, and other strategic initiatives
- Manage, oversee, and support labor and employment internal investigations
- Oversee federal and state employment-related agency audits, complaints and investigations
- Effectively train HR and business leaders on labor and employment issues
- Effectively and efficiently supervise and/or partner with internal and outside counsel in labor and employment-related litigation and regulatory proceedings
- Own, lead, and oversee team processes and procedure improvements
- Successfully manage and lead others, both peers and direct reports
- Adhere to, support, and promote the Mission, Values, standards, and goals of the Company and Team
- Other duties as necessary and assigned, including willingness to travel
Job Requirements:
- JD from accredited law school and active state bar license required
- Minimum 7+ years' legal experience, specifically focused on employment law, with significant time dedicated to advice and counseling
- Demonstrated understanding of federal and state labor and employment laws, regulations, and agencies, including Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, FMLA, EEOC, and state agencies
- Creative problem solver with strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to simultaneously handle numerous varied assignments
- Proven ability to drive complex projects to completion with a diverse group of business partners, and to lead collaborative group projects with minimal oversight and guidance
- Demonstrated ability to work under high pressure conditions, meet aggressive deadlines, and to effectively handle urgent situations with patience and tact
- High integrity and ability to quickly build trust and maintain credibility
- Ability to succeed working both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Impeccable interpersonal communication and service orientation, including demonstrated leadership qualities and an ability to bring out the best in others

Preferred:
- Experience working in a sophisticated in-house legal department or top-tier law firm
- Experience working with public corporations, particularly in the travel and entertainment industry
- Litigation, regulatory investigation, and internal investigations experience
- Experience with labor relations and traditional labor
- Expertise in wage & hour law
- Experience litigating employment-related class and/or collective actions.
- Experience managing legal issues in non-U.S. jurisdictions.
The expected Total Compensation for this role is $160,000 - $180,000 + annual bonus + equity. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Vail Resorts offers a ‘Hybrid' work environment for Broomfield-based roles where employees must live within 50 miles of the Broomfield office and work on-site Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and have flexibility to work off-site on Mondays and Fridays.
