About the Opportunity:
An American Commercial Real Estate Company is seeking an employment attorney to join its employment law team as a Director within its Legal Department. This position will sit in New York and will report to the Global Head of Litigation, Employment & Investigations.

Responsibilities:
  • Advise on employment matters throughout the United States and Canada, including hiring/recruitment, promotions, leaves and accommodations, performance and absenteeism management, disciplinary actions, reductions in force, terminations, and post-termination disputes.
  • Provide counsel to HR and business leaders on a wide range of issues, including restrictive covenants agreements, severance agreements, discrimination, harassment, leave, compliance, restructuring, franchising, M&A due diligence and integration, accommodations, pay equity, wage and hour, and worker classifications.
  • Oversee and partner with outside counsel on employment litigation.
  • Draft and review HR policies and handbooks, develop HR training programs, and train HR and business leaders on employment-related matters.
  • Draft compensation plans, including sales compensation plans and governance policies.
  • Oversee and occasionally conduct internal employment investigations involving alleged violations of law.
  • Monitor and draft submissions to regulatory agencies that involve employment-related reporting obligations, including EEO-1 and related wages reports, affirmative action reports/plans, and unemployment and workers' compensation inquiries.

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate and law degree.
  • 7+ years' combined experience in law firm and/or in-house legal department, preferably as an employment lawyer in a multinational, U.S. based company.
  • Proven expertise in U.S. employment law and litigation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build close partnerships with business and legal stakeholders
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage deadlines, workflow, and team execution in a fast-based and demanding work environment
  • Ability to translate legal requirements into understandable risk-based recommendations for the business and legal functions.
  • Experience advising on sales compensation, including sales commission plans, is a plus.
  • Experience and/or interest in EMEA employment law is also a plus.
