About the role:
As a Director, Employment Counsel, you will be the subject matter expert for all employment law matters at the Company. You will partner closely with the People Team and other internal stakeholders to enable business initiatives while mitigating risk. Your self-motivated, driven and dedicated nature enables you to work within a collaborative culture.

What You'll Accomplish
  • Provide risk adjusted advice on a broad range of employment law matters, including recruiting, hiring, training, terminations, performance management, leave of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, compensation (including executive compensation and equity), benefits, background checks, DEI initiatives; and employee relations matters and investigations.
  • Provide advice on contingent workforce compliance and review contractor agreements
  • Support teams on international employment law issues (India and Canada)
  • Protect the company from employment law risk; review and respond to claims and demand letters; oversee and manage all employment litigation matters and manage outside counsel handling claims.
  • Advise People team on changes in the law and best practices; work with People team on maintaining updated templates, including handbooks, employment agreements, confidentiality agreements, and severance agreements; provide training to People team on relevant legal matters.
  • Be a key business partner to People Team leadership, providing strategic advice on developing policies, processes, and strategies; enable People team members to be self-sufficient.

What We're Looking For:
  • 8+ years employment law experience (Firm & In House)
  • California Bar Member
  • Expertise in California labor and employment law
  • Experience with contract structuring and negotiation, including executive compensation agreements
  • Possess excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills
  • Attention to detail - ability to spot and process material issues in a range of agreements
  • Analytical skills - ability to understand issues in the context of business objectives and risk tolerance
  • Organization and planning (multi-tasking) - ability to manage multiple legal projects in parallel and drive to completion
  • Strong Ethics - possesses and abides by a set of moral principles that include among other things, honesty, integrity, loyalty, and respect for others
  • Creativity - look for and identify new and original solutions to help business partners solve issues
  • Empathetic communication skills - communicate with other parties (particularly internal clients) in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of that party's needs and objectives
