How will you make an impact in this role?
The Director, International Tax contributes to the Company's success by providing strategic and legal technical tax guidance with a focus on U.S. International Tax. The Director will provide technical tax advice on specific matters and transactions and will help to influence the Company's overall strategy with respect to U.S. international tax planning.
The Director, International Tax will:
- Assist with the development of strategic and creative planning efforts for U.S. International tax matters, including transaction planning and credit opportunities
- Provide planning and strategic support for domestic and international M&A transactions
- Provide technical tax advice with respect to foreign tax credit positions
- Develop strong strategic partnerships with the businesses, the Global Tax team, and the other staff functions to ensure an integrated, proactive approach to providing tax advice
- Proactively follow developments in Federal tax laws, and help assess the impact on the Company's return positions
- Contribute to the monthly and quarterly processes of documenting these developments
- Prepare and review documentation related to new positions taken on the tax return
- Provide guidance on reserves and provisions affecting the U.S. Federal, State and local tax provisions
- Assist with development of documentation to support FIN 48 and FAS 5 reserves.
- Provide strategic support to the Audit team and assist in reviewing and responding to IDRs or other audit information requests
- Interface with U.S. compliance, reporting/provision and controversy groups to ensure coordination and integration
- Assist with process improvement and continuously look for opportunities to upgrade current processes and controls
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience as a tax advisor with emphasis on Federal and U.S. International taxes
- Experience with a government, large corporation, law firm or national public accounting firm (or some combination thereof)
- Juris Doctor Degree required
- Strong communications skills; possessing the ability to explain complex concepts simply and succinctly to internal constituents
- Deep analytical skills, with an eye to providing a fresh perspective to existing processes
- Transparency; the ability to communicate up and down the organization, respecting differing views and reducing potential surprises
- Ability to build relationships and work effectively with internal clients and external advisors
- Well-developed organizational, time management, planning and prioritization skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- An LL.M in Tax is highly desirable
- CPA certificate a plus
- Knowledge of the tax treatment of partnership and joint venture operations a plus
