A Government Entity is currently recruiting for an experienced attorney, Deputy I - Senior Deputy I DOQ to fill a key role in the department.

A Government Entity Deputy Prosecutors represent the interests of the State of Washington in legal actions commencing with the pre-filing, investigative stage and continuing through the post-filing litigation process. Case assignment may include difficult criminal prosecutions of adults for felony offenses, including: sexual assault, domestic violence, and major crimes.

Hours of Work: Monday - Friday 8 AM - 5 PM

Hiring rate depends on qualifications. This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (https://www.whatcomcounty.us/DocumentCenter/View/36738/2024-Salary-Matrix-UNREP?bidId=) (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).

Qualifications:
  • Deputy I:
    • Must be a member in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association. Trial experience in criminal law desirable, but not necessary.
  • Deputy II:
    • Must be a member in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association.
    • Requires two years service as a A Government Entity Deputy I in the Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney's Office OR three years as a successful practicing attorney with an equivalent trial background that provides the required skills, knowledge, and capabilities.
  • Senior Deputy I:
    • Must be a member in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association.
    • Requires two years' service as a Deputy II in the A Government Entity, or five years as a successful practicing attorney with an equivalent trial background that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  • Background Check must meet Elected Prosecutor's criteria.
