Description:
Duties: The Deputy Attorneys General work under the
supervision of the Assistant Attorneys General in the Division of Law,
and the Section Chief and Assistant Section Chiefs of the Section, to
provide legal representation and advice to many Divisions and Agencies
within the Department of the Treasury, including the Division of
Purchase & Property, the Division of the State Lottery, the Office
of Public Finance, the Office of Information Technology, the Office of
Management and Budget, the Division of Property Management and
Construction, the Division of Investment, and the Office of the State
Comptroller. The Treasury - Finance and Benefits Section (T-FAB) Section
also provides counsel and representation to the Division of Pensions
and Benefits, and the various State pension and health benefit boards
and committees. In addition, the T-FAB Section provides counsel and
representation to various State authorities that handle, among other
things, financing, housing, economic development, real estate
development, and retirement savings accounts. These authorities include
the Economic Development Authority, the Educational Facilities
Authority, the Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency, the Garden State
Preservation Trust, the Building Authority, the Health Care Facilities
Financing Authority, the Transportation Trust Fund Authority, the New
Jersey Infrastructure Bank, and the New Jersey Secure Choice Savings
Program Board.
Requirements:
- Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor. Admission to practice as an Attorney-at-Law in the State of New Jersey is required.
- Experience:
- Deputy Attorney General 4: Two (2) years of experience as a practicing attorney.
- Deputy Attorney General 3: Three (3) years of experience as a practicing attorney.
- License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Salary Note: For newly hired individuals, the starting salary and title will be determined by the Department commensurate with experience. Salary offers and titles are non-negotiable and will fall within the range posted.
- Special Note: Current Department employees appointed to a Deputy Attorney General 4 or Deputy Attorney General 3 title must be willing to accept a lateral transfer, if selected.
- Preference: Preference will be given to candidates who have relevant experience handling constitutional challenges to state and federal laws and regulations, experience litigating cases brought under the Administrative Procedure Act, and/or experience handling complex civil affirmative investigations and enforcement actions.
