Cozen O'Connor's Commercial Litigation Department is seeking an associate to join the firm's Emerging Data Privacy Trends practice in the Chicago office.Ideal candidates will have two to five years of law firm litigation experience defending employers and technology enterprises involved in major data privacy class actions and appellate matters in federal and state courts and in arbitration. Familiarity with the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), the California Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA), and other state and federal privacy statutes is expected. Candidates should have experience with data breach litigation, session replay and wiretapping claims, pixel tracking litigation, right of publicity claims, and other emerging privacy-related disputes.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate strong written and oral advocacy skills, excellent legal research and analytical abilities, outstanding academic credentials, and a demonstrated interest in data privacy law. Candidates should be highly motivated, possess strong attention to detail, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment handling complex and evolving privacy-related disputes.
Cozen O'Connor's Emerging Data Privacy Trends practice is a nationally recognized team that has handled more than 300 privacy-based class actions, including matters involving cutting-edge technologies and novel legal theories regarding the collection, use, protection, sharing, and disclosure of personal information. The practice is known for anticipating litigation trends, working closely with clients to anticipate the next waves of privacy litigation and proactively address them. The team regularly defends clients in high-stakes privacy litigation involving biometric data, website technologies, artificial intelligence, advertising and tracking tools, consumer privacy laws, and data security incidents. The practice also handles individual and mass arbitration matters asserting privacy claims, and has successfully compelled arbitration where strategically advantageous for clients. Attorneys in the group work on some of the most significant and fast-evolving privacy disputes in the country, providing associates with substantial opportunities for hands-on litigation experience, client interaction, and professional development.
The salary range for this position is $210,000 - $245,000 and represents the Firm's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate's relevant experience and qualifications.
