Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Working closely with other attorneys, clients, and staff.
- Working in the Superior and Appellate Courts.
- Work includes charging, negotiating, sentencing and trial work.
- Oral and written advocacy.
An employee in this classification represents the State of Washington as a deputy prosecuting attorney in the prosecution of felony offenses at the Superior Court level, the Juvenile Court level, or at the Appellate Court level. In addition to performing all of the duties required of a County Attorney 1 and 2, the employee will serve as lead attorney on more complex criminal cases such as multi-defendant cases, violent crime and homicide cases. The employee may also act in a supervisory role. Duties are to be performed with professional discretion within office guidelines, professional ethics, standards and legal requirements.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
Must be admitted as an attorney in the State of Washington (RCW 36.27.010) and a U.S. Citizen (RCW 36.27.010, RCW 36.27.040, and RCW 29).
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience working as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with oral and written advocacy skills.
- Experience charging, negotiating, sentencing and trial work.
