Position Summary:

An employee in this classification may represent the State of Washington as a deputy prosecuting attorney in the prosecution of felony offenses at the Superior Court level, including the Juvenile Court, or at the Appellate Court level which may include complex or serious criminal cases. May also work in the Misdemeanor Division prosecuting misdemeanor offenses in District Court or Juvenile Court with a high level of proficiency. The employee must be able to handle all of the duties and essential functions of a County Attorney 1. Employees are expected to manage a high-volume caseload in an organized and efficient manner. Duties are to be performed with professional discretion within office guidelines, professional ethics, standards and legal requirements.

You will work with the senior level attorneys, County Executive, legislative, and other agencies and branches of county government to develop proposed legislation that the county wishes to present to the state legislature.

Core Daily Responsibilities and Requirements:
  • Working closely with other attorneys, clients, and staff.
  • Working in the District, Superior, and Appellate Courts.
  • Work includes charging, negotiating, sentencing, and trial work.
  • Work may include working on backlog, resentencing, DNA project, and Blake-related case work.
  • Oral and written advocacy.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
Three or more years of experience in the practice of law in a relevant area of law. Membership in the Washington State Bar Association.

Preferred:
  • Preference will be given to attorneys with specialized experience.
  • Relevant experience as a licensed attorney advising public or private sector clients.
  • Relevant experience initiating and responding to frequent motions and attending multiple hearings and occasional trials.
