Job Summary:
The candidate will work under the supervision of Assistant General Counsel or Associate General Counsel to provide legal advice, support, research, and opinions to internal business partners on legal issues. The candidate will draft and negotiate relevant documents and deliverables, including agreements, pleadings, memoranda, briefs, or other associate documents.

Job Description:
What You'll Do:
  • Review, analyze, and interpret legislation, regulations, and judicial and administrative decisions and other legal materials to independently respond to inquiries; and review and prepare documents. Should be able to perform all duties with minimal supervision.
  • Promote and initiate teamwork; possess a comprehensive knowledge of different disciplines' network channels, both internal and external to the company; build relationships to get things accomplished; provide prompt and concise customer service.
  • Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the Company's Corporate Compliance Policy.
  • Counsel should be organized, self- driven, team oriented, able to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, and comfortable interfacing and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including external counsel, internal business partners, business unit leaders, and AEP attorneys in various other areas of practice.
  • Provide legal support for AI, privacy, and cybersecurity matters, including incident response and regulatory compliance.
  • Note: This position is posted at multiple grade levels and offers a range of opportunities for advancement. The minimum qualifications outlined below apply to the Counsel level, with increased educational, skill, experience and certification requirements for higher level Counsel roles.

What We're Looking For:
Education:
  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Licenses/Certifications: Licensed in Ohio

Experience:
Three years of law firm or in house practice

Additional Requirements:
  • Counsel should be big picture oriented, yet focus driven, with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Solid writing, research, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
