Description:
Essential Functions:- Monitor legal and regulatory developments related to COVID-19 issues and advise other departments accordingly. Draft employee and guest policies and procedures about COVID-19 issues and update as necessary.
- Manage employment and litigation matters, including working with outside counsel and facilitating the investigation of claims. Hire and retain outside counsel for general litigation matters, organize discovery and responses, attend witness preparations, depositions, and/or hearings. Review pleadings and motions, and maintain calendars and deadlines for each claim or case. Coordinate with and report to General Counsel on all such matters.
- Serve as primary liaison between the legal department and risk management and human resources departments as necessary for purposes of reporting claims, setting reserves, coordinating responses, and settlement, if any.
- Draft, review, edit, and negotiate a variety of venue, consulting, employment, service, and other types of agreements that protect the Company and enable a mutually compatible business arrangement.
- Coordinate with internal/external resources regarding a variety of legislative efforts and strategies responding to comments to proposed rulemakings, legislative activities in support of or adverse to the company at the federal, state, and local levels. Review regulatory developments as they arise and may affect the Company. Assist with regulatory compliance efforts, including any licensing or permitting needs. Represent the Company in various industry groups and trade associations in regards to legislative and regulatory matters. Prepare and submit FOIA requests.
- Maintain files and legal department records on all litigation and regulatory matters.
- Assist General Counsel with other tasks as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Juris Doctorate; college degree.
- Minimum 4+ years of experience. Federal-level legal experience preferred.
- Registration with VA bar as corporate counsel or VA bar membership
- Ability to evaluate and analyze issues (often on a rapid basis) to make timely recommendations for business decisions, and willingness to learn new areas and switch from one topic to another in a nimble, professional manner.
- Exceptional analytic, organizational, writing, and oral business communication skills required.
- Ability to work independently and assist effortlessly with all levels of the organization.
- General familiarity with export controls and trade sanctions is a plus.
