Exciting opportunity to join Aetna's Medicaid legal team. The Administrative Hearing Counsel position is a part of the Medicaid legal team and represents Mercy Care in administrative hearings related to member appeals/grievances and provider claim disputes.

The Administrative Hearing Counsel represents Mercy Care at administrative hearings related to member appeals/grievances and provider claim disputes for Medicaid and Medicare Advantage D-SNP lines of business. These lines of business provide covered physical and behavioral health services for individuals enrolled with Mercy Care.

The position requires the attorney to apply legal knowledge to cases at the administrative hearing (and rehearing) level, including, but not limited to, preparing and drafting memorandum, motions; conducting legal research; preparing expert witness testimony and testimony of other subject matter experts; and preparing exhibits for hearing. The attorney will also conduct settlement negotiations with opposing counsel or parties and draft settlement agreements. The attorney may also be assigned other legal projects from time-to-time.

In order to be successful in this role you must exhibit the following:
  • Team-oriented individual with an attention to detail, ability to multitask, and strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Experience providing legal advice and counsel to internal customers or clients.
  • Experience demonstrating solid business and legal judgment.
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise with legal acumen, drafting and analytical skills. -Experience demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills, including high level of interpersonal skills and diplomatic finesse.

Required Qualifications:
Must be admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona and in good standing with applicable license requirements.

5+ years of experience as a practicing attorney.

3+ years of experience with trial practice or other administrative hearing proceedings.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in healthcare law, including Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and Managed Care Organizations.

Education:
Juris Doctorate required.

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$144,200.00 - $288,400.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
