Job Summary:
The Counsel, Employment and Litigation, position will support An Insurance Distribution Platform Company's Human Resources and Litigation functions, with responsibility to provide labor and employment counseling and transactional support, along with managing litigated matters and the third-party subpoena docket. The position reports to the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Human Resources. This role is intended for a hard-working, forward-thinking labor and employment/litigation attorney seeking to build an in-house career in a fast-paced, corporate environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide overall legal and compliance support to the Human Resources function at the direction of the VP and Deputy General Counsel, HR;
  • Manage the workflow of a high-volume commercial litigation, insurance management and third-party subpoena docket;
  • Shift priorities and address time-sensitive issues and matters to support real-time business demands, needs and deadlines;
  • Take direction and execute on delegated assignments/matters from direct manager with minimal supervision, exhibiting resourcefulness and independent judgment;
  • Provide accurate, practical, pragmatic, timely, and responsive legal advice and guidance to An Insurance Distribution Platform Company's management and personnel on a wide range of issues affecting An Insurance Distribution Platform Company's varied businesses;
  • Track and maintain employment and litigation matters in company system and keep timely records to support accurate and up-to-date reporting and metrics; and
  • Participate in joint efforts and projects to help meet the demands of An Insurance Distribution Platform Company's enterprise-wide goals and strategies.

Education/Experience:
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited nationally recognized law school;
  • Active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction;
  • At least 2-4 years of law firm and/or in-house experience required;
  • Experience with labor and employment law, including drafting, reviewing, various HR agreements, along with experience in labor and employment counseling;
  • Experience with general commercial litigation cases; third-party subpoena management preferred.
