Position Summary:The Counsel, Employment Law position is a full-time position responsible for providing legal counsel, strategy and direction on a wide variety of employment law and human resources matters. This position reports to the Director of Litigation and Employment Counsel, who reports to the Company's General Counsel.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day legal advice on employee relations, talent acquisition, reasonable accommodation, leaves of absence, performance management, discipline, separations, wage and hour, and other employment-related issues.
- Develop, advise, and train on various policies and processes in compliance with federal, state and local laws.
- Partner with human resources and management in the development of on-going employment related strategies and HR projects, processes and initiatives.
- Lead efforts to prepare and update critical human resources documents (e.g., policies, handbooks, and other communications).
- Manage litigation hold process and document requests.
- Oversee the Company's OFCCP compliance program.
- Partner with or assist senior attorneys in the Company's defense of employment litigation and pre-litigation matters, including lawsuits, demand letters, EEOC charges, and other government audits and investigations.
- Assist with the preparation for and/or response to unionization efforts and activities and other traditional labor matters.
- Serve on cross-functional teams and attend business meetings to provide legal advice to business partners on a wide variety of employment law and related subjects across the organization.
- Review invoices from outside counsel to ensure accuracy and to contain legal costs.
- Provide functional support to other members of the legal department as needed.
Basic Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of four years at a law firm and/or in-house with employment law and employment litigation experience in federal and state courts.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment and labor laws.
- Significant experience managing employment litigation matters in federal and state courts.
- Experience advising clients on employment-related matters and risks.
- Clear, concise, effective communicator.
- Willingness to take on new challenges and creatively approach problems.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment with a demonstrated ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Traditional labor law experience – Preferred.
- Must be a member of a state bar in good standing, with an active license.
- Must be currently located in the geographic area of the position or willing to relocate yourself.
- Must be able to remain in stationary position in an office environment: 80%.
- Will frequently move about inside the office to access files, office machinery, etc.
