Job Summary:
The Employment Law Counsel provides legal guidance on all aspects of employment and labor law, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role advises management and HR on employee relations matters, mitigates legal risk, and supports the organization's people strategies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise on employment laws and regulations, including wage and hour, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, leave laws, and workplace accommodations
  • Draft, review, and update employment-related policies, handbooks, agreements, and contracts
  • Provide guidance on employee discipline, performance management, investigations, and terminations
  • Advise on internal workplace investigations and advise on appropriate corrective action
  • Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment requirements
  • Manage or support employment-related litigation, claims, and agency matters (e.g., EEOC, DOL), including coordination with outside counsel
  • Train internal partners on employment law topics and best practices
  • Monitor legal developments and proactively recommend updates to policies and practices
  • Manage employment-based immigration matters, including nonimmigrant and immigrant visa processes (e.g., H-1B, L-1, TN, PERM, I-140, I-485, EADs)
  • Manage or support employment-related litigation, arbitration, and administrative charges (e.g., EEOC, DOL, state agencies), including coordination with outside counsel
  • Develop and implement compliance programs, policies, and training related to employment and immigration law
  • Identify legal risks and recommend proactive mitigation strategies
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and assess impact on business practices
  • Advise on Form I-9 compliance, E-Verify participation, and immigration recordkeeping requirements
  • Support immigration compliance audits, government inspections, and responses to agency inquiries
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition and HR on immigration strategy, workforce planning, and sponsorship decisions
  • Manage relationships with outside immigration counsel and immigration vendors

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active Tennessee bar membership
  • 4+ years of experience practicing employment law, including immigration-related matters
  • Working knowledge of U.S. employment-based immigration laws and compliance requirements
  • Experience advising HR and business leaders in a corporate or law firm setting
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to balance legal risk with practical business solutions
  • In-house experience supporting multi-state
  • Experience managing high-volume immigration matters or outside immigration counsel
  • Litigation management experience
  • Courtroom experience a plus
