Role Summary:An Energy Management Platform & VPP Company is seeking a commercial Counsel to join our growing legal team! We're looking for a dynamic and business-minded lawyer to provide sound, practical, and actionable legal advice in support of our mission.
What you will do:
Primary Focus
- Serve as counsel in preparing, reviewing, negotiating and advising on a wide range of commercial agreements, with a focus on SaaS, services, and procurement agreements.
- Support commercial contracts, partnerships including with regulated electric utilities, and transactions that support consumer energy solutions.
- Identify potential legal and business risks in contracts and develop approaches to mitigate them.
- Work dynamically across the traditional in-house portfolio with minimal supervision.
- Provide legal review and business-focused legal advice across all departments and functions.
- Address broader strategic issues and matters of first impression.
- Act as a key member of the company's legal team and report to CLO.
- Work closely with department leaders to achieve business objectives, mitigate risks and ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
- Support commercial, transactional, and compliance.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Business-forward in-house commercial lawyer with leadership skills.
- Experience negotiating custom commercial deals with regulated electric utilities, retail energy providers, or other load serving entities.
- A legal- and thought-partner for our business development leadership, with direct impact on helping them accelerate deals and win new business.
- Remote position.
- Some domestic travel required.
Requirements:
- JD and Bar Admission: JD from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in good standing.
- Experience: 5+ years of legal practice, including in-house experience.
