Wellfleet, a Berkshire Hathaway Company, seeks an experienced attorney to join the growing legal department of a national health insurance company.
The Corporate & Regulatory Counsel is responsible for supporting a nationwide accident and health insurance carrier by handling a wide range of corporate, transactional and insurance regulatory matters in a quickly evolving and highly regulated industry. In addition to providing subject matter expertise and collaborating with stakeholders across the business, this position will have a practical approach, business mindset and strong interpersonal skills.
In this role, you will…
Exercise strong business acumen and analyze legal issues from the business perspective
Work closely with cross-functional team members and business leaders to review legal issues and implications of potential business decisions and initiatives
Work closely with business leaders and the Procurement team on a broad range of commercial agreements across all lines of business and corporate areas, including vendor and TPA contracts, service agreements, technology contracts and other deals and complex transactions
Provide contract-related training, peer review and coaching to colleagues as needed
Establish and improve contract processes, templates and playbooks to enhance efficiency, compliance and scalability
Serve as a resource for internal stakeholders on a variety of applicable laws impacting health plans
Act with a high level of personal integrity, professionalism, intellectual curiosity and willingness to grow
Manage several varied legal issues simultaneously
Manage tasks and assignments efficiently and effectively to meet deadlines with high urgency
May entail supervisory responsibility by managing direct reports by setting accountability, priorities, and goals, providing ongoing support and development opportunities, and coaching and mentoring team members by identifying areas of improvement and providing timely and constructive feedback

We are looking for candidates with…
Bachelor's degree in business management, or related field, and at least 3 years of voluntary insurance experience servicing accounts, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Possess and maintain an active and valid Accident, Health and Sales Producer license or have the ability to obtain required industry licensing
Demonstrated success in dealing with sophisticated employer clients, brokers/consultants, enrollment firms, and other 3rd party partners involved in the insurance processing lifecycle
Willingness to travel when necessary
Detail oriented with the ability to problem-solve while managing competing priorities
Excellent communication and presentation skills, along with excellent customer service soft skills
Strong consultation, negotiation, persuasion and influencing skills
Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships at all levels
Solid knowledge of group insurance, products, contracts, compliance requirements, and services
Knowledge of underwriting principles and practices
Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems, specifically Salesforce
Ability to work with leaders to develop and document desired business capabilities
