Primary Function
We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive regulatory attorney to support our mortgage servicing operations. This role will focus on ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting mortgage servicing, advising internal stakeholders, and supporting regulatory examinations and audits. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the mortgage servicing regulatory landscape and experience working in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Monitor, interpret, and advise on federal and state laws, regulations, and agency guidance impacting mortgage servicing, including but not limited to RESPA, TILA, ECOA, FDCPA, FCRA, CFPB Regulations, and state-specific servicing requirements
  • Provide legal counsel to business units on regulatory compliance matters, operational changes, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Draft and review regulatory disclosures and customer communications
  • Review and advise on policies, procedures, and training materials to ensure alignment with applicable laws and regulatory expectations.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Operations teams to implement regulatory changes and support enterprise-wide compliance initiatives
  • Track and analyze regulatory developments, assess their impact on servicing operations, and communicate changes to relevant stakeholders
  • Partner with outside counsel as needed to align legal approaches with internal strategic objectives and acceptable risk levels
  • Draft and review responses to government agencies regarding escalated consumer complaints and aid with examinations and investigations;
  • Provide advice and counseling in connection with risk assessments (including legal risk assessments), compliance testing, internal audits and state and federal examinations of mortgage servicing operations

Other duties as directed Education and Experience Requirements
  • Law Degree.
  • Membership in good standing in state bar.
  • Minimum of 5 years of full-time legal practice with substantial experience in regulatory compliance, focused on residential mortgage servicing issues, in a law firm or in-house setting

Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements
  • Familiarity with FNMA, FHLMC, GNMA Servicing Guidelines
  • Ability to achieve consensus among competing objectives and constituencies.
