Position Overview:
The In-House Corporate Counsel will serve as the primary legal advisor for Meest America Inc., supporting all aspects of the company's operations and governance. This is a hands-on role for a proactive, business-minded attorney who thrives in a fast-paced, international environment. You'll work closely with senior leadership to ensure legal compliance, manage risk, and provide strategic counsel that supports growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise senior management and internal departments on corporate, commercial, employment, and compliance matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts and agreements to safeguard company interests.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including corporate, employment, and regulatory obligations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain internal legal and compliance policies.
- Manage and coordinate external legal counsel for specialized or high-complexity matters, ensuring cost efficiency.
- Identify and mitigate potential legal risks across all business functions.
- Support corporate governance and risk management initiatives, including document control, board materials, and filings.
- Stay current with evolving laws and regulations affecting logistics, transportation, and international operations.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in the U.S. (New Jersey Bar preferred).
- 3–7 years of experience in corporate or commercial law, ideally with a blend of law firm and in-house experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in contracts, employment law, compliance, and risk management.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical solutions.
- Exceptional communication, drafting, and negotiation skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities independently.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior in-house experience within a logistics, transportation, or international trade company.
- Experience managing outside counsel and optimizing legal costs.
- Familiarity with cross-border business operations and international compliance.
