Responsibilities:
The Collection Specialist / Subrogation Attorney will supervise two associates and manage a large portfolio of recovery and subrogation cases. The role combines legal analysis with practical negotiation and leadership skills. You'll oversee case resolution strategy, direct negotiations, and coordinate with insurance carriers, legal counsel, and internal departments to achieve optimal recovery outcomes. Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and mentor a staff of two collection associates.
  • Oversee and manage high-volume collections and subrogation caseloads involving freight damage, cargo loss, and liability recovery.
  • Analyze liability, damages, and contractual terms to determine recovery potential.
  • Negotiate settlements and payment agreements with insurers, shippers, and other responsible parties.
  • Draft and review demand letters, settlement agreements, and related legal correspondence.
  • Collaborate with in-house and outside counsel when litigation is necessary.
  • Monitor statutes of limitation, ensure compliance with legal standards, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Report recovery metrics and performance results to management.
  • Provide guidance on legal and procedural best practices within the department.

Experience, Education, and Training
Juris Doctor (JD), active bar admission in Missouri. Experience in collections, subrogation, insurance recovery, or commercial claims preferred.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires being able to sit and remain focused and motivated for long periods of time. Being able to multitask between the computer, phone, and different projects is required.

Working Environment:
Primarily indoors with heating and cooling regulated in a general office environment. Call volume can be heavy at times.
