Description:

Pugh Law Office P.A. is seeking a Litigation Attorney who enjoys doing more than drafting.

We are looking for an attorney who is comfortable in court, understands how evidence is admitted and challenged, knows how to prepare and examine witnesses, and can think about a case the way it will actually be presented to a judge or jury.

Prior civil litigation experience is valuable, but not necessary. We are pleased to consider attorneys with courtroom experience from other litigation settings, including prosecution, criminal defense, government litigation, or other trial-focused practice.

Our firm represents local and international clients in civil litigation, business disputes, contract matters, real estate disputes, landlord-tenant matters, and related civil matters. The right attorney will bring courtroom judgment, confidence, preparation, and practical advocacy skills, and will be able to apply those skills in a civil litigation practice.

This position is well suited for an attorney who has handled real hearings, worked with witnesses, made evidentiary arguments, and wants to use those skills in business, contract, real estate, and other civil disputes.

Responsibilities:
  • Appear for hearings, pretrial conferences, and other litigation proceedings.
  • Argue motions and present factual and legal issues clearly, professionally, and persuasively.
  • Analyze how a case will be proved or defended in court, including testimony, documents, business records, communications, damages evidence, credibility issues, and evidentiary objections.
  • Identify and address evidentiary issues involving relevance, foundation, hearsay, authentication, privilege, impeachment, business records, expert testimony, and admissibility.
  • Prepare clients, business representatives, fact witnesses, and other witnesses for testimony.
  • Conduct or assist with direct examination, cross-examination, objections, impeachment materials, exhibit presentation, and trial strategy.
  • Develop case themes, factual timelines, witness outlines, exhibit lists, motions in limine, pretrial submissions, and trial presentation plans.
  • Prepare for and participate in depositions, mediations, settlement conferences, evidentiary hearings, and trials.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, witnesses, court personnel, experts, and firm staff.
  • Draft litigation documents that advance the case, including motions, discovery, correspondence, settlement materials, pretrial filings, and trial materials.
  • Accurately and conscientiously record billable time.

Requirements:
  • Active Florida Bar membership in good standing.
  • 3+ years of litigation experience.
  • Be conscientious and trustworthy.
  • Meaningful courtroom experience, including hearings, evidentiary hearings, contested motions, witness examinations, or trial work.
  • Strong working knowledge of evidence, courtroom procedure, objections, witness preparation, and trial presentation.
  • Ability to think practically about proof, admissibility, credibility, damages, defenses, and how facts will be presented in court.
  • Ability to prepare witnesses, organize exhibits, analyze evidentiary issues, and contribute meaningfully to litigation strategy.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, diligence, and attention to detail.
  • Strong client-service orientation and ability to communicate clearly with clients.
  • Ability to work as part of a litigation team with attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and administrative staff.

Preferred Experience:
  • Experience as a prosecutor, public defender, criminal defense attorney, government litigator, civil litigator, or other courtroom-focused attorney.
  • Jury trial, bench trial, or substantial evidentiary hearing experience.
  • Experience arguing contested motions.
  • Experience taking or defending depositions.
  • Experience preparing witnesses for testimony.
  • Experience with motions in limine, exhibit lists, witness lists, trial notebooks, proposed jury instructions, verdict forms, or pretrial stipulations.
  • Experience with business disputes, contract disputes, real estate disputes, commercial litigation, landlord-tenant disputes, or related civil litigation matters.
  • Experience with cases involving business records, contracts, financial records, ownership disputes, real estate issues, or credibility disputes.
  • Experience working with international clients or clients for whom English is not their first language.
  • Comfort working in a technology-forward legal environment.

Compensation:
Base compensation depends on experience, courtroom background, trial experience, and fit. Performance-based bonuses, origination compensation, and other compensation arrangements available.
