Description:

Griffiths Law is a boutique litigation firm—and we are hiring a civil litigation associate who wants to do trial work.

This is not a document-review job at a large firm or a third-chair role drafting briefs. From your first months, you will take depositions, argue motions, work directly with experts, and try cases in arbitrations and trials across Colorado. You will work alongside experienced trial lawyers handling construction, real estate, insurance, and complex commercial disputes in state and federal courts.

About Griffiths Law
Since 2002, Griffiths Law PC has built its reputation on a simple promise: protecting our clients' future.

While best known as one of Colorado's leading family law firms, Griffiths Law has also built a substantial and rapidly expanding civil litigation practice. Our attorneys represent individuals, businesses, property owners, contractors, developers, homeowners' associations, insurers, and commercial entities in complex disputes throughout Colorado.

Our civil litigation team handles construction defect claims, real estate and title disputes, insurance coverage and bad faith matters, partnership and business disputes, partition actions, mechanic's liens, receiverships, and complex commercial litigation in state and federal courts. We are frequently retained in matters involving significant financial exposure, technical subject matter, and challenging facts.

We are trial lawyers. Cases are prepared from day one with the expectation that they may ultimately be decided by a judge, jury, or arbitrator. That approach drives everything we do—from discovery and expert development to motion practice, negotiation, and trial preparation.

Our culture is built around preparation, accountability, and continuous improvement. We expect a great deal from our attorneys, but we invest heavily in their development. Associates are given meaningful responsibility, direct client contact, and real courtroom opportunities.

The Role:
Our civil litigation team consists of four attorneys. One attorney focuses primarily on appellate work, complex briefing, and legal research. We are looking for a litigation attorney whose primary focus will be managing cases, taking depositions, developing strategy, handling hearings, and trying cases.

This is a hands-on litigation role with substantial responsibility from day one. You will manage civil litigation matters from initial consultation through resolution and trial, maintaining primary responsibility over your cases.

Day to day, you will:
  • Manage active litigation matters, including deadlines, pleadings, written discovery, depositions, dispositive motions, pretrial motions, and trial preparation
  • Serve as the primary attorney responsible for moving your cases forward, developing strategy, managing deadlines, and driving favorable outcomes for clients
  • Take and defend depositions, prepare witnesses, and work directly with retained experts on complex financial, construction, real estate, and technical issues
  • First-chair and second-chair (or third depending on case size) arbitrations, evidentiary hearings, and bench and jury trials in Colorado state and federal courts
  • Work closely with shareholders and senior attorneys on case strategy, trial preparation, and business development
  • Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, courts, and the team's paralegals
  • Develop into a first-chair trial attorney capable of independently managing sophisticated litigation matters
  • This position is best suited for a lawyer who enjoys being in the courtroom. We are looking for someone who wants responsibility, client contact, courtroom experience, and the opportunity to build a long-term litigation practice—not someone seeking a narrow research or drafting role.

Who You'll Work With
You will work most closely with shareholder Duncan Griffiths and senior associate Cheyenne Somers Jenkins, who lead our civil litigation practice.

Duncan's practice focuses on construction, real estate, insurance, and commercial litigation. He has spent his career litigating and trying complex disputes throughout Colorado and is deeply involved in case strategy, depositions, expert development, dispositive motions, and trial preparation. He is known for demanding preparation, direct communication, and a practical approach to solving difficult litigation problems.

Cheyenne built her career at Griffiths Law and has become an integral part of the firm's litigation team. She manages sophisticated matters from inception through trial, has substantial arbitration and courtroom experience, and is known for her thorough preparation and attention to detail.

Unlike many larger firms, associates work directly with the attorneys responsible for trying cases and are expected to develop into first-chair litigators. You are also expected to be able to work well within the team, which includes both attorneys and paralegals.

You will learn from lawyers who actively litigate, take depositions, argue motions, and try cases—not lawyers who simply supervise from a distance.

What We're Looking For:
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Colorado Bar (or eligible for prompt admission)
  • 3–10 years of civil litigation experience, including meaningful responsibility for discovery, depositions, motions practice, hearings, and case management
  • Demonstrated ability to manage litigation matters with independence, ownership, sound judgment, and attention to detail
  • Strong legal writing, oral advocacy, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable handling complex facts and working with financial, construction, real estate, insurance, or other technical subject matter
  • Experience taking and defending depositions, working with experts, preparing witnesses, and developing litigation strategy
  • Organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple matters simultaneously while maintaining high-quality work product
  • A trial lawyer's mindset: prepared, accountable, and willing to take a case through hearing, arbitration, or trial when necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership over cases, including tracking and meeting deadlines
  • A highly efficient team player that can be operate well within the established team
  • A genuine interest in developing into a first-chair litigator within the firm
  • Experience in construction, real estate, insurance, business, or commercial litigation is a plus, but not required
