The Opportunity:Gfeller Laurie LLP seeks a confident and ambitious associate attorney with 2+ years of insurance defense and medical malpractice litigation experience to join its West Hartford, Connecticut office. The successful candidate will defend insurers, healthcare providers, professionals, and other clients in medical malpractice actions and complex commercial disputes. The candidate must hold a law degree from an accredited law school.
This highly valued associate will work across insurance defense and medical malpractice matters, managing cases day to day, reporting to clients, handling written discovery, attending depositions and court appearances, and assisting with trial preparation and proceedings. The role requires strong analytical, organizational, research, and writing skills; an interest in developing sophisticated civil defense litigation experience; and a thorough command of Connecticut practice rules and procedures. The associate will work closely with the firm's civil litigation partners.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a blended caseload of insurance defense and medical malpractice matters from inception through resolution
- Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, and discovery
- Take and defend depositions
- Attend court conferences, hearings, and mediations
- Collaborate with partners and clients to develop case strategy
- Maintain strong client communication and deliver high-quality legal work
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Admitted to practice in Connecticut (required)
- 2+ years of insurance defense and/or medical malpractice litigation experience
- Strong writing, analytical, and advocacy skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Additional state bar admissions are a plus (PA, NJ, MA, NY, or VT preferred)
