Description:
The City of Branson is seeking a highly qualified and experienced City Attorney to serve as the chief legal advisor to the City Administrator, Mayor, Board of Aldermen, and City departments. This position plays a key role in supporting sound governance, protecting the City's legal interests, and providing practical, timely, and strategic legal guidance on a wide range of municipal matters.What You'll Do:
- Provide legal counsel to City leadership and departments on a variety of municipal matters.
- Prepare legal documents including contracts, ordinances, resolutions, policies, and legal opinions.
- Represent the City in legal proceedings, Board meetings, and administrative hearings as assigned.
- Protect the City's interests by supporting litigation, ensuring legal compliance, and helping manage risk.
- A trusted advisor who exercises sound judgment and provides practical legal guidance.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
- Graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association with a juris doctorate.
- Evidence of passing the Missouri State Bar Examination and a valid Missouri Bar number.
- A valid, current license to practice law in the State of Missouri and the ability to maintain such licensure.
- A license from another state with reciprocity may be accepted, provided the employee obtains Missouri licensure prior to beginning employment. Any application, licensing, or related costs associated with obtaining a Missouri law license are the sole responsibility of the employee.
- Five (5) years of combined experience, practicing law in the public or private sectors.
- Knowledge of labor relations, civil litigation, collective bargaining and municipal, state, federal, and constitutional law affecting municipal government.
- Some supervisory experience.
- Possess a valid driver's license and must be insurable under the City of Branson's motor vehicle coverage when operating a vehicle as a part of the position.
- Successfully pass a background investigation and drug and alcohol screenings.
- Prior experience as a Chief Legal Counsel, City Attorney, or Deputy City Attorney for a municipality or county.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in municipal law, criminal law, business law, tax law, employment law or real estate law.
- Familiarity with and understanding of Missouri state statues and municipal law.
- Experience with legal software such as Westlaw, case management systems, and legal matter intake software.
