Jenner & Block is seeking a junior associate, with 2-3 years of experience, to join our dynamic and growing Bankruptcy and Restructuring practice in our Chicago office.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role on the team and can expect to work on a wide variety of fast-moving and complex matters. The starting base salary for this position is expected to be 235,000 – 260,000 annually. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other job-related factors, consistent with applicable law.

Key Responsibilities include:
  • Representing a broad cross-section of client clients, including debtors, official creditors' committees, financial institutions, and asset purchasers.
  • Handling all phases of bankruptcy proceedings, contested matters, and insolvency-related litigation.
  • Drafting and negotiating various legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, restructuring agreements, and financing arrangements.
  • Conducting legal research and analysis on complex issues related to bankruptcy and restructuring.
  • Representing clients in negotiations with creditors and other stakeholders.
  • Working closely with partners to develop strategies for complex and high-stakes matters.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree plus 2-3 years of bankruptcy experience in a law firm is required
  • A federal judicial clerkship, particularly for a bankruptcy judge, is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience drafting pleadings such as complaints and answers.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and arguing substantive motions in both federal and state courts.
  • Demonstrated case management experience.
  • Detail-oriented, independent self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong academic credentials are required.
  • Candidate possesses a strong commitment to pro bono representation.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment is essential.
  • Membership in the Illinois bar is required.
