State Fund Corporate Legal plays a crucial role in supporting State Fund's mission by representing the organization in administrative and court disputes, offering legal advice, representation, and training to high-level executives, internal partners, and other state departments across various areas of business, insurance and government law.

We are actively seeking a highly experienced litigation attorney with proven track record of first chair bench and jury trial experience in State and Federal Courts.

Under the direction and supervision of an Assistant Chief Counsel, you will:
  • Represent State Fund in handling/litigating the most complex, sensitive, and difficult civil cases
  • Provide legal advice necessary to defend and reduce State Fund's legal exposure
  • Handle civil litigation before State and Federal Courts, administrative agencies, arbitration boards and representation in connection with corporate advice matters
  • Participate and act in a lead capacity on complex cases and projects
  • Provide mentorship and encourage knowledge sharing
  • Advise State Fund's Directors, Executives, Officers, Managers, Attorneys, Employees and Representatives, and stakeholders

The Attorney V may act in a lead capacity on cases, including the assignment and delegation of tasks, and mentor over Attorney IV, Attorney III and Attorney as necessary. The Attorney V does not supervise attorney staff.

New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate salary range when applicable. Placement to alternate salary range may be based on education or experience identified in your state application.

  • Proven track record of serving as lead counsel in trails before State and Federal Courts, including jury trials
  • Ability to handle and litigate complex civil cases and advice matters independently
  • Experience handling exceptionally difficult legal matters with a high level of specialization
  • Ability to navigate multiple forums and jurisdictions, demonstrating versatility and adaptability
  • Experience providing legal advice, representation, and training to high-level executives, internal partners, stakeholder and other state departments
  • Exceptional legal acumen and proficiency in legal research, analysis and communication
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, including mentoring and guiding junior attorneys and legal support staff
  • Experience handling cases with significant impact on the organization's business environment, including those with high stakes, complexity, or media exposure
