Job Overview:A Fox Cities Municipal Law Firm is a municipal law firm located in the Fox Valley. The firm represents towns, villages, cities, counties and other public entities throughout the State of Wisconsin either as their general legal counsel, or through their insurers. Our firm seeks to hire a municipal attorney to join our team. The person who fills this position will be responsible for prosecuting municipal ordinance violations, including traffic offenses and Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) matters, in both municipal and circuit court. In addition to prosecution duties, this position will assist on a broad range of general municipal legal work including complex litigation matters. The right candidate will have the desire to learn and gain valuable litigation skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent municipal clients in municipal and circuit court for prosecution of ordinance violations, including OWIs and other traffic or code-related matters.
- Prepare, review, and manage cases from initial filing through resolution, including legal research, drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court documents.
- Advise municipal officials, staff, and departments on matters relating to ordinances, statutes, and administrative procedures.
- Advise on nuisance matters including raze/repair, raze, and other property maintenance related violations.
- Assist with general other legal matters affecting the municipality.
- Provide support in drafting and reviewing contracts, ordinances, resolutions, court documents, and legal opinions as assigned.
- Attend and participate in court hearings, pretrial conferences, and trials on litigation cases as needed.
- Maintain current knowledge of state and local laws impacting municipal governance and enforcement.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice law in the State of Wisconsin (or ability to obtain admission promptly).
- Strong litigation and courtroom advocacy skills.
- Prior experience in prosecution, municipal law, or litigation preferred.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively with municipal staff and elected officials.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct effective legal research and analysis.
