An International Law Firm, a global law firm, has an exciting full-time employment opportunity for an Attorney Development Manager in the Professional Development department in our Los Angeles office. We offer competitive compensation and an excellent benefits package.

Position Summary:
The Attorney Development Manager (ADM) will work alongside the firm's Director of Attorney Development and other Managers on the Professional Development (PD) team to develop and implement innovative programs to onboard, train, mentor, develop, engage, and retain the firm's attorneys with a focus on associates and professional development initiatives. This position will be based in the Los Angeles office and is a firmwide role with a focus on Los Angeles as well as on the Orange County, San Francisco, San Diego, Sacramento, Silicon Valley, Phoenix, Denver, Las Vegas, and Salt Lake offices (Western Region). This role is a hybrid position, involving in-office responsibilities and occasional travel as required.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Firmwide Projects
The ADM will be assigned firmwide projects to lead or to contribute to. Examples of those projects are Associate Retreats, Associate Review Process, Firmwide First Year Associate Orientation, Legal Writing Academy, and Mentor programs. The Director of Attorney Development will assign those projects as they arise.

Regional and Global Practice Group Responsibilities
The ADM will manage and lead firmwide projects, regional office responsibilities, and global practice group responsibilities. Those responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Regional

The ADM will support the attorneys in the Western Region offices. The responsibilities include the following:
  • Develops a deep understanding of the culture of each office
  • Meets with, foster relationships, and effectively communicates with Managing Shareholders and Career Development Liaisons (CDLs) on a regular basis in each office
  • Develops and administers training programs, live, virtual, and hybrid, that meet professional development goals, including assistance in developing program materials; managing project timelines; assessing quality and quantity of attorney development opportunities
  • Identifies appropriate training and delivery methods to achieve business objectives
  • Coordinates local programming in partnership with the CDLs, including CLE programs; facilitates, implements, and teaches local program as needed
  • Understands the associate population and oversee the engagement of associates
  • Provides an associate orientation to the PD department and programming and assists with integration into the office and the firm
  • Welcomes new shareholders to the offices and provide PD department highlights
  • Provides integration opportunities for new associates including introductions to others
  • Works with associates on strategies for success and individual career development, including business development plans
  • Meets with, builds relationships, communicates, and collaborates with Business Directors, HR Managers, Marketing, and other firm departments
  • Monitors the mentor program and ensures all associates in your region have mentors
  • Travels to the offices on a regular basis or as programming warrants
  • Reinforces or advertises webinar programming to associates and encourage attendance
  • Assists with the associate evaluation process on a regional level
  • Tracks and provides reports on region's PD efforts and training metrics to key leadership and management
  • Stays current on trends and best practices in leading learning and education solutions

Global Practice Group Training and Programming
  • Meets with Global Practice Group Heads (PGH) at the beginning of each year to plan professional development programs for the year
  • Works with the shareholders in charge of practice group training to develop training programs and identify effective teaching methods
  • Oversees course catalogs, resources, and competencies related to the practice group
  • Evaluates programming and recommend content and process improvements
  • Tracks and provides reports on Practice Group PD efforts and training metrics to Global PGH

  • Qualifications & Prior Experience:
  • A Juris Doctor degree is required as well as strong project management skills; a background practicing law at a large law preferred
  • A minimum of 8-10 years of attorney professional development experience; significant experience in a large law firm is also preferred
  • Two years of prior supervisory experience desired
  • Demonstrated success establishing, developing, and managing robust career development functions in a national or international, multi-office environment
  • Familiarity with learning management systems, adult learning techniques, and online learning technologies a plus
