The Cordele Judicial Circuit is seeking to hire an Assistant Public Defender III. The primary duties include representing indigent clients with criminal case(s) in Superior Court. The applicant must have a strong dedication to indigent defense. Applicants must meet the qualifications and have the necessary skills to perform the job duties and responsibilities for the position. The Assistant Public Defender will be responsible for preparing and presenting cases at various stages, including arraignments, preliminary and pretrial hearings. The candidate must have trial experience and a strong commitment to indigent defense. Applicants must possess a Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university, a license to practice law in the State of Georgia, and be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.Description of Duties: The Assistant Public Defender III will be responsible for providing competent and zealous legal representation and advocacy to indigent clients. An individual holding this position will represent clients in cases including the most serious, legal complex, high-profile and/or significant cases assigned to the office. This position may perform as a lead attorney advising and counseling other attorneys as to the case management practices of handling their assigned cases. Performs other related duties as required.

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity and two (2) years of relevant legal -experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021).
