We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Associate Immigration Attorney to join our legal team. The Law Office of Johanna M. Herrero is a law firm located near in the Boston area dedicated largely to the representation of immigrants in removal defense, or who are pursuing affirmative relief. The firm represents both detained and non-detained individuals, and practices in family law courts seeking SIJ relief for juvenile immigrants. It also analyzes criminal statutes to the extent necessary and related to immigration eligibility and post-conviction relief. Our firm's practice consists of appearances before the EOIR, ERO/ICE and BIA, in the form of applications for asylum, withholding of removal, relief under the Convention Against Torture, SIJS, Waivers of inadmissibility, appeals, and before USCIS, in the form of adjustment of status, waivers, family petitions, VAWA, U visa, and naturalization, etc.

The attorney will handle a variety of immigration cases and the caseload will include both affirmative applications and removal defense. The position will involve advocacy, legal research and writing, and appearance before USCIS, ERO, EOIR and BIA.

However, we are willing to train newly admitted practitioners with an interest in immigration law and who may have immigration clinic experience.

English/Spanish-speaking candidates are strongly preferred but not required.
This would be an excellent opportunity to expand your immigration law knowledge. The candidate will gain strong substantive knowledge of immigration court procedure, filing, and understand workings of an immigration firm.

Pay: Salary is commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and review immigration petitions, applications, and supporting documentation for clients.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research.
  • Draft clear, persuasive legal memos, client correspondence, and pleadings that effectively communicate complex legal concepts
  • Assist with case management by organizing client files, tracking deadlines, and maintaining accurate records in the law office database (Immigration Zoom)
  • Collaborate with clients to gather necessary information, explain legal options, and guide them through the immigration process with professionalism and empathy

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree
  • Proven experience or strong interest in immigration law; familiarity with related fields such as family law.
  • Excellent legal writing skills demonstrated through drafting pleadings, memos, and correspondence
  • Strong organizational skills with experience managing multiple cases simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Prior legal administrative experience preferred to support efficient office operations
  • Ability to negotiate effectively while maintaining professionalism and client confidentiality
