Associate General Counsel-Commercial

Act as Head of Legal Commercial: DHL Supply Chain in the US and Canada, providing strategic legal leadership and business partnering to DSC regional and global senior management.
Develop and implement legal strategies, processes and procedures that identify and mitigate legal and compliance risks, protect DHL Group's legal and business interests, and support business objectives in line with Group frameworks, policies, applicable laws and regulations.

Oversee legal support for compliance matters affecting the DSC businesses in the US and Canada.

Your Tasks:

• Lead Commercial legal support for DSC in the US and Canada.
• Define and implement divisional legal strategies, policies, processes and standards aligned with business objectives, DHL Group Policies and Procedures, applicable contract approval processes, the Code of Conduct and the Supplier Code of Conduct.
• Partner with senior management to influence, review, support and facilitate business and commercial strategies, ensuring operations remain within DHL Group risk parameters and comply with applicable laws across multiple jurisdictions.
• Draft, negotiate and oversee complex, significant and cross-jurisdictional transactions from opportunity to go-live, including customer, supplier, CSI, and M&A agreements.
• Support integration of newly acquired entities, including corporate governance matters.
• Manage disputes to eliminate or reduce reputational and financial harm, including engagement with business teams, insurers, risk management functions and external counsel.
• Support DSC compliance reporting, investigations, and ensure effective legal support to Compliance Officers, including ESG, and competition-related matters.
• Communicate, train and upskill business colleagues on legal and compliance principles, risk identification, management and mitigation, and create and disseminate legal knowledge and practical guidance.
• Collaborate with global legal colleagues, including DSC Legal Practice Group, to maintain consistency, share expertise and manage legal matters that span jurisdictions.
• Implement best-in-class legal processes and procedures and use DHL Legal Services digitization tools, including legal intake, to support effective service provision and readily available, tailored business guidance.
• Maintain strong knowledge of local laws and applicable industry standards.
• Present key management messages to the wider business and represent the legal function through relevant leadership forums, site visits and business communications.

Stakeholders

• Partner with country, regional and global senior management across DSC to shape business strategies, advise on significant legal and compliance issues and support informed decision-making.
• Negotiate critical customer, supplier, M&A, and other agreements across multiple jurisdictions, protecting DHL's legal, commercial and reputational interests.
• Build trusted relationships across the DHL businesses and with Global Business Services, Compliance, IRM, Finance, HR, Security, IT, Strategy and Data Protection to coordinate integrated solutions.
• Collaborate with Express and DGF Legal Practice Groups and other global legal colleagues to align legal approaches, share knowledge and support cross-border transactions and disputes.
• Communicate and train at all organizational levels on legal and compliance principles, risk identification, management and mitigation.
• Represent DHL and communicate effectively with regulators, government officials, customs-related stakeholders, customers, suppliers, external counsel and trade associations.

Management Responsibility:

• Lead the Commercial legal team supporting DSC in the US and Canada.
• Ensure appropriate allocation of legal support across the combined portfolio and provide direction, coaching and development to legal professionals.
• Attract, develop, motivate and drive high performance, while promoting consistent standards, collaboration and knowledge sharing across the team.

Your Profile
Education Level:
Law degree and professional qualification as a lawyer

Experience Level:
Senior Head-level legal, substantial post-qualification and in-house experience; to be confirmed by DHL GBS HR
