Job Description:The Associate General Counsel (AGC) – Real Estate will collaborate with business leaders throughout the company to provide practical solutions to legal issues and risk management discussions. They will understand and contribute to the structuring, origination, and securitization of commercial real estate transactions. The AGC will also oversee environmental practice, ensuring internal staff and external consultants conform to A National Builder, Developer, Designer & Real Estate Manager Based in Minneapolis's environmental program and regulatory requirements. They will advise on legal aspects of the real estate project financing, along with current and future business structures including formation of legal entities.
Some things you can expect to do:
- Assist real estate attorneys, paralegals and staff members in the review and preparation of documents, reports and correspondence.
- Anticipate and understand emerging talent needs and ensure the right people are in the right place at the right time to support future growth.
- Assess internal and external talent against emerging talent needs, and develop and motivate direct reports through feedback, stretch assignments, and other development resources or support.
- Create meaningful evaluation and recognition strategies across the team.
To be successful in this role must have:
- A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school and be an active member in good standing of the Minnesota State Bar is required.
- You must also have at least 10 years of successful legal counsel experience in a real estate services company, relevant law firm experience, and/or in-house experience in a commercial real estate development or construction organization. You must also have expert knowledge of negotiating and closing complex land deals and creditor agreements, including navigating regulatory processes and approvals on the state and municipal level.
- Knowledge of capital markets, including debt and equity capital financing is required.

- Real estate deal experience with various types of properties including raw land, ground leases, and improved land.

- Track record of successfully hiring top talent in the legal function.
- Set and communicated expectations for leadership development, recruited and brought new talent into the company, enhanced leadership bench strength, and made decisions that upgrade the available talent level.
- Experience providing feedback, coaching, and access to other resources/support to develop top tier talent.
