This role is a crucial part of DISQO as it enters its next phase of growth and innovation - transforming how brands measure, understand and optimize advertising performance - and will serve as a trusted partner across all departments with a broad and diverse range of responsibilities.
The role will work cross-functionally within DISQO to develop and implement scalable programs and processes - focusing on strategic contracts with our clients and partners, privacy and compliance issues, marketing, employment and a broad range of other legal and business matters impacting DISQO.
This role requires a unique skillset. The ideal candidate must not only bring the legal experience and drive needed to thrive in a fast-paced organization, but also strong business acumen to be able to assess real-world risk and provide practical, strategic guidance. Reporting to and working with DISQO's Chief Legal Officer, you will be a trusted partner to all teams within DISQO, having a critical impact on the entirety of the business.
What you get to do:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and serve as a key point of contact to provide legal support for all aspects of the business.
- Develop practical, creative solutions to support business needs while mitigating risk in a constantly evolving industry and with complex and evolving legal regulations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate key master agreements with enterprise customers and work closely with our Sales organization to close high value revenue deals.
- Support DISQO's privacy initiatives, such as those related to GDPR and CCPA, for both end user facing services and clients, including advising internal teams and structuring, drafting and negotiating key data processing and related agreements.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of policies, forms, trainings, and processes to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with US, European, and other international laws and regulations.
- Partner with our product and other internal teams to review new uses of personal data to ensure compliance with applicable data protection laws and best industry practices.
- Work on significant and essential transactions and programs such as privacy, regulatory and compliance, and U.S. and international business partnerships.
- Remain up-to-date, advise on, and ensure compliance with relevant industry, advertising, IP, privacy, data security, and consumer protection laws, regulations and developments to provide an ongoing ability to provide sound legal and compliance advice.
- Collaborate in the drafting, updating and maintaining of various DISQO forms, standard terms and public-facing documents.
- Develop trusted relationships with all internal teams and create and/or improve internal processes to help both the legal function as well as the business generally.
What You Bring To The Role:
- At least 9 years of combined, relevant experience as in-house counsel within a tech start-up and/or with a major law firm
- Excellent legal and business judgment with the ability to think critically, strategically, and creatively; ability to appropriately analyze and determine practical, real-world risks is crucial
- Experience working hand in hand with sales leadership and teams to close deals, with experience in Adtech a significant plus
- Experience working on privacy and data protection matters, including knowledge of and experience with US and global privacy and cybersecurity laws, including CCPA/CPRA and GDPR
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide innovative and clear solutions to complex problems while managing multiple projects
- Able to communicate (verbal and written) effectively on complex issues; ability to explain complex legal matters in plain language and balance between benefits and practical risks to DISQO
- Excellent drafting and negotiating skills, and mastery of the practice of less is more in contracts
- Business-minded: ability to understand business goals to analyze risk and generate pragmatic and effective solutions to help meet those goals
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize and balance multiple tasks in a very fast-paced environment without the need for micro-management; a strong desire to roll up your sleeves and do what it takes to get the job done
- Attention to detail, business-friendly, and a fantastic teammate and team player who is able to think creatively and accommodate tight deadlines
- Ability to manage and work with outside counsel in both a domestic and international setting
