This is an advanced position. Candidate must be able to work independently and collaborate with other professionals and departments under the supervision of the SVP and Chief Legal Officer and Deputy General Counsel. Must be able to lead projects with minimal oversight and to supervise paralegals and junior attorneys as directed. Must be eager to learn and take direction from the SVP and Chief Legal Officer and Deputy General Counsel. Projects a positive attitude and fosters a team approach with his or her colleagues.
Must possess excellent legal research and writing skills in addition to having the desire, disposition, and integrity necessary to work well with fellow members of A Teaching Hospital legal department, members of A Teaching Hospital healthcare and administrative departments, outside and opposing counsel, and court personnel.
Experience Required:
- Six or more years' experience as an attorney. Health law education and/or experience at a law firm, for the government, or another health system - Preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of the law and related terminology.
- Written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal/human relation skills.
- Research and report preparation skills.
- Legal analysis and argument skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- A demonstrated ability to systematically:
- Research a variety of statutes, regulations, case law and other legal authorities.
- Professionally and thoroughly investigate various types of factual situations.
- Apply relevant legal authorities to a given factual situation.
- Develop sound and practical legal conclusions about a client's obligations or opportunities in a given factual situation.
- Present those conclusions to other attorneys, and as requested to managers or other client representatives in an organized, systematic and professional manner.
- A demonstrated ability and desire to work in a team-oriented collaborative environment.
- A demonstrated proficiency in modern legal office skills, including the use of Microsoft Office products, the Internet, Westlaw and e-mail.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctor required
License/Certification Requirements
- Must possess a valid NJ driver's license.
- Active bar admission in good standing and eligible for New Jersey licensure. Admission to the New Jersey Bar required within one year of employment.
